Global NGOs

Identifying and addressing unpatched security vulnerabilities within NGOs worldwide.

Project Global NGO’s (pgngo) is an initiative dedicated to identifying and addressing unpatched security vulnerabilities within NGO’s worldwide. These organisations are often threatened by cyber threats even though they often don’t have the resources to defend themselves. We aim to help these organisations by finding vulnerabilities and alerting the organisations, as well as giving them advice on how to resolve the vulnerability.

The Project

Why we help NGOs

NGO’s are important to society and do a lot of good work. We would like to help them take some of the worry about cyber threats away. We are a volunteer-led, not-for-profit organisation ourselves, we just want to help with no alternative motive.

What we do

We scan any subdomain we can find with tools like Nuclei. Any vulnerabilities we find with those tools are manually confirmed by our volunteers before we notify the organisation in question to prevent unnecessary alarm.

If you want to be scanned more often, we would be happy to help out. You can email us (please use your work email for this, so we can tell you actually belong to this organisation) and tell us which domains you would want us to scan and what email address to send a report to.

Why we do this

Our main priority is to make the digital world a safer place, but this project also aims to help people gain more experience in cyber security. Both manually confirming and communicating with people from the NGO’s themselves teaches valuable skills.

Timeline

  1. 2025 In 2025, most of the project was transferred to CSIRT.global. It now supports NGOs worldwide, building on lessons from Project Global Universities.
  2. Future plans We strive to warn as many NGOs of potential issues as possible, and help them to remediate them. We also hope to set up many similar projects for other types of organisations.

The Team

We are preparing and onboarding the team at this moment. :-)
